Traditional Boarding Schools

Traditional boarding schools are best for students who are not struggling with behavioral, emotional, or learning issues. If your teen is not behind academically and has not had issues with behavior in the classroom or at home that concern you, a traditional boarding school is a good environment in which to get a top-notch education and individual attention.

Traditional boarding schools often have smaller class sizes, specializations in specific subjects (for example, science or math), and strong positive peer cultures. However, there is still much responsibility placed on the student to succeed or not succeed, and these private schools do not always have the resources, services, and specialization to help students who have learning differences, ADHD, or emotional problems. Such students often continue to struggle in school and with their peer group. In fact, they often are labeled the "problem kids" - and the "problem kids" tend to end up in the same peer group, once again creating an environment where negative or self-defeating behaviors flourish.

If your teen does not need the therapeutic or specialized academic attention of the specialty boarding schools, you can learn more about traditional boarding schools and other types of boarding school choices at Boarding Schools Info.
