Recreational Therapy
Recreational therapy uses activities like hiking, cross-country skiing and rock climbing to help teens develop social skills, communication skills, coping skills and interpersonal skills as well as develop new talents. Activities are specifically designed to help the student meet their treatment objectives and to build self-esteem.
The focus of recreational therapy is often team-building and problem-solving as a group of teens works toward a common goal. After each session, the recreational therapist and students evaluate their performance, process any issues that surfaced, and draw parallels between this experience and real life experiences.
